High Care Kids is an operational area that intends to increase the opportunities for those children with high care needs to participate in sport and recreation. By spending time with children and families, Ability Solutions are able to develop, implement and evaluate inclusive practices as well as support others to deliver sustainable long term services.

This key area of Ability Solutions’ Operational Plan focusses on researching and implementing ways to increase participation of people with mental illness in physical activity. To achieve this Ability Solutions works together with community service providers, agency staff, volunteers and people with mental illness. Ability Solutions continue to develop new, innovative and specialised adaptive equipment and modified activities for people with disabilities in Western Australia.  Ability Solutions continues to maintain a unique partnership with TADWA in the areas of equipment research, development and prototypes. 

MODIFIED ACTIVITIES AND
ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT

The ‘Late Life Leisure’ project is funded by Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing. The project aims to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their families and/or carers.

AGED DEMENTIA

Ability Solutions has spent a number of years servicing various institutions in adult and youth mid level prisons and is currently conducting research into this focus area and is looking to engage with key government agencies to gain a better understanding of the system.

INCARCERATED PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

‘Sand n Sea Fun Days’ will provide inclusive opportunities for children with severe and profound disabilities to experience new water-based beach-focused activities utilising modified and adaptive equipment and customised delivery, working in partnership with their schools, teaching staff, support workers and families to engage them with their peers in a sustainable activity day concept and advance the life experience of all of the students involved.
